This is Ella, head of the department Finance & Control. Every month Ella has to create a rolling budget which includes a personnel budget, a project calendar and a product budget. Of course she creates a spreadsheet to realise this task.


Her spreadsheet turns out to be useful and is quickly adopted by her colleagues. The various sheets are being interlinked and every month the realisation figures are manually added. However, this is when the problems arise.
  • It costs Ella’s employees much time to fill the spreadsheet
  • Rather frequently the spreadsheet contains incorrect data
  • Every month the formulas have to be altered in order to support the rolling budget
  • Anyone can make adjustments, even if this is not desirable.
